DongHwa Entec Co., Ltd. successfully completed a Super-TIG welding demonstration at Bay 4 of Hwajeon factory on Friday Dec. 11.
Attended by Chairman Kim Kang-hee, CEO Kim Dong-kun, Super-TIG welding professor Jo Sang-myeong and various company personnel, the automatic welding demonstration was conducted using Super-TIG welding equipment on the linear and girth weld zones.
Super-TIG welding is a new welding process developed to overcome low productivity, a technical limitation of traditional manual TIG welding.
If current and wire feed speed is increased to boost productivity of manual TIG welding, welding defects including undercuts and humping beads can occur.
However, Super-TIG welding is a welding technique with which high deposition speed without undercuts and humping beads can be obtained using 3~10mm wide C-form filler metal, a 3~8mm long arc and high current.
Super-TIG welding has been applied only to the deposition(welding metal filling) process, excluding the back bead on the root, but as the demonstration showed the possibility of solid back bead formation on the root, it was a meaningful occasion.
It is anticipated that high productivity automatic welding will be made possible using Super TIG from the root to the final layer, through development of more stable welding conditions and equipment tailored to the site of the future.
Starting with Super-TIG welding automation, DongHwa Entec Co., Ltd. will fulfill improved work efficiency through development of advanced automation equipment.
